- The line of the surveyed route proceeds from Kalgan (張家口), Chihli (直隸), across northern Shansi (山西) via Kweihwa (歸化) to Paotow (包頭), Inner Mongolia (内蒙古), then down the Hwang Ho (黃河) via Tungkwan (潼關), Shensi (陕西) to Menghsien (孟縣), Honan (河南). The map is drawn in multiple sections on each sheet. Contoured relief is shown within two miles either side of the route, together with hydrology, communications and settlements. Principal locations are given in non-standard romanised Chinese, smaller locations are numbered.
