The letter then refers to a more general matter, to the proof required of American citizenship: 'The subject of the other part of your letter occasions me no little trouble. The orders the Captains of His Majesty's Ships upon this station are under upon this occasion is, that they are not to Impress American Citizens who are known to be so, or have in possession any document to prove it.'

A letter introducing and vouching for Monsr. De Buc de Marentille, 'an Emigrant Gentlemen from Guadaloupe, who has been living now three years in the town of Halifax with his Lady and Sister.'
- 8. Cover sheet for papers concerning 'Ireland / Military'. Dated 5 September 1798. Concerning Mr. Allan Macleod: 'any pardon to Macleod would be at present greatly premature, & of very bad general consequence. The libels for which he is under a sentence of the Court of K's Bench, which was passed only in Trinity term last, are of the most malignant description. His conduct when brought up to receive that Judgement was the most audacious & offensive which could be exhibited in a Court of Justice.'

Also, wishes to know 'what office it is that the uncle of the Mayor of Totnes holds under the Master of the Rolls. Your father [i.e. William Adams, M.P. for Totnes] can tell you if you do not know.'
- 27-28. Windsor, 9 May 1803, beginning: 'The King has this morning received Lord Pelham's note accompanying this application of General Sir David Dundas to be dispensed from paying the Fees as Knight of the Bath. This request can by no means be granted as it would entirely defeat the wise Regulation that no one should apply for that Honour who is not in circumstances to support it.' With signature, George R.
- 34-35. 4 December 1806, Gerrard Andrewes [Dean of Canterbury] to [?Adams]. Regarding Pews: 'Application must be made in writing to Wm. Young Knight Esq. The Vestry Clerk in Great Marlborough Street who will enter your name according to the Date of your Application.'
