Fragment of a general introduction to the use of sundials. The text does not appear to be preserved elsewhere. Only one folio of this treatise is preserved and the text is imperfect at the end. The text on the lower half of f. 30v is obscured by water damage, worm holes and repairs.
Begins (f. 30r, lines 2-7):
عمل عام في عمل آلات الإظلال
تأليف شيخنا مؤلف ما قبله أطال الله بقاه
نفرض سطح البلاطة التي
نخط فيها خطوط الساعات دائرة ا ب ج د ونخرج
فيها قطري ا ج ب د يتقاطعان على زوايا قائمة على نقطة ه ولأن
كل نقطة من الكرة يمكن أن نفرضها سمت الرأس وهي قطب لدائرة أفق
Ends (f. 30v, 14-21):
... وكليها موضع الشمس لآخر ساعة من ساعات
النهار أوقت (!) أو توسط درجة منه المرة (؟) البروج وكان الدائري
من الفلك للوقت المفروض قوس ف يا ونخرج من نقطة يا خطًا مستقيمًا يكون
عمودًا على خط ض ف وهو خط يا يب ونفصل خط ع يج مثل خط يا يب
ويخرج من [...] خطًا موازيا لخط ت ه وهو خط يج يد يلقى الدائرة
