A single black and white photograph (850 x 850 mm) of the first production of The Room by Harold Pinter (The Drama Studio, University of Bristol, May 1957). The production was directed by Henry Woolf.
The photograph shows (as annotated in black ink by Woolf on the verso) three members of the cast in performance: Susan Engel ('Rose'), Henry Woolf ('Mr. Kidd'), and Claude Jenkins ('Bert Hudd'). Also recorded on the verso on the photograph, more faintly in pencil, a note that the photograph was published in Martin Esslin, The Peopled Wound: The Plays of Harold Pinter (1970), as Plate 1a (which states, incorrectly, that the performance was in December 1957).
