Letter signed 'Abdulluh Von Clef' (the first of many such inventions, some of which are indicated below); similarly, Harwood is addressed as 'Lee-o-poldo' (and other variant names in other letters). Envelope annotated with Harwood's reply date.
- (2). [San Francisco], 22 August 1985. Typed letter (2 sheets). Letter signed 'Abdulluh Von 'Zahler'. 'On the morning, early, of April 16 my friend Brent MacKay called me from Vancouver to say that [Basil] Bunting had died. For some reason, though we weren't really close in any sense, I cried thru the morning like a baby.'

'Got to go to Australia in Oct. when [John] Ashbery got scared to fly at the last minute.' In the autumn, Kleinzahler will be a lecturer at 'Berkerkeley' for a semester. Letter signed 'Von Dog'.

'My big literary news, though, is that I've been picked up by FS&G in New York and Faber in England. I'm still not convinced that it isn't an enormously convoluted, cruel practical joke that will reveal itself momentarily.'
