Travel diary recording the daily activities of Samuel More during his tours of West Midlands in 1776 and of West Midlands, North West England and North Wales in 1780.
From 9-27 July 1776 More travelled around the West Midlands visiting towns including Birmingham, Stourbridge, Broseley, Coalbrookdale, Shrewsbury and Etruria as well as their surrounding villages. More was a keen industrialist and records his visits to the works at Bradley, Bloomfield Colliery, New Willey Ironworks, Coalbrookdale and Horsehay. More also describes his trips to local attractions and beauty spots including a view of Caer Carodoc and Mow Cop Castle.
Includes ‘A Section of Mr Watt’s Patent Steam Engine’ and ‘A concise Account of the Earthquake that happened the 27th May, 1773, at the Birches, between Coalbrook Dale and Buildwas Bridge in Shropshire’
From 28 June-4 August 1780 More travelled around West Midlands, North West England and North Wales visiting towns including Etruria, Northwick, Warrington, Chester, Liverpool, LLandan, Conway, Wrexham, Broseley, Wolverhampton, Kidderminster and Worcester as well as their surrounding villages. More records his visits to the works at Paris Mountain works at Ravenhead, Howenden/Northop lead mines, Paris Mountain mine on Anglesey, works at Bursham, Willey Furnace and Worcester glass works. More also describes his trips to local attractions and beauty spots including Anglesey ports, Iron Bridge, Kiddermister canals and Worcester cathedral.
Includes ‘A Description of St. Winefred’s Well, at Holy-Well, in Flintshire’, ‘Limestone, Lime and Coal’, card on ‘Yacht Inn, Chester’ with note on the monument to Ann Wilkinson on the reverse and notes on Dale and Horsehay works.
