- Description: Catamarca is one of the provinces in north west Argentina characterised by an arid and semi-arid climate with fertile valleys. Catamarca remained isolated from the rest of Argentina until the arrival of the railways by the end of the 19th century. This envelope shows the towns that were founded, at least, since the arrival of the Spaniards in the 17th century although the original people known as Diaguitas inhabited the region with a developed culture under the influence and in relation to the Incas. Extent and format of original material: A handmade envelope that contains other envelopes encompassing the towns in the province of Catamarca with the first initial of their names from the letter A to the letter H.
