- Title:
- Punta Lara [1930s-1960s]
- Scope & Content:
- Description: Punta Lara was a beach resort near La Plata, the capital city of the province of Buenos Aires. Before it was built, the original place was a desert on the River Plate (Río de la Plata) near a railway station. The envelope is not original and contains part of a former Nepaco folder with clippings glued on the folder’s sheets of paper. Another survivor of the original Nepaco folder is an isolated separator with the title “Punta Lara Caminos” (“Punta Lara Caminos”). The rest of the materials are peculiar to the archive´s envelopes: magazines’ and newspapers’ articles and clippings, as well as photos. The articles and clippings pertain to well-known Argentine newspapers and magazines such as the company’s El Hogar (The Home), El Mundo (The World), PBT, and Mundo Argentino (Argentine World), as well as other publications from the newspapers La Nación, La Prensa, La Razón, Clarín, and the magazine Revista Argentina (Argentine magazine). The subject of the photos and texts relate to the tourists’ activities such as sports, children’s games on the beach, the local and famous building and activities of the Jockey Club, balls, dance halls, costume parties, ladies’ fashion and other activities of the bathers and swimmers: picnics, excursions, sun bathing, among other recreational happenings. Extent and format of original material: New envelope created by the team that contains a former Nepaco folder. This envelope contains former sheets of paper and an isolated separator of the previously existing folder, plus original photos, and magazines’ and newspapers’ articles and clippings.
