- Description: The Casa de Formación de Bernal (House of Bernal) or Primary School for boys was administered by the Congregation of Don Bosco. It was founded in 1897 thanks to a local patriarch, don Agustín Pedemonte,who arrived in Quilmes in 1880. With the new century, the democratic vocation shown by the 1912 President Roque Saenz Peña was expresses in his educational policies. In this context and on March 5th, 1911, the teacher Anastasio Antonio Lanz asked for the creation of a High School for the Training of Teachers (Escuela Normal). Some months later, he also asked for the foundation of a National Secondary School (Colegio Nacional). In 1910, the former was founded by order of President Roque Saenz Peña and, in addition, soon Quilmes counted with 26 public schools. Extent and format of original material: This envelope contains 2 envelopes one titled Escuela Normal Mixta and the other Escuelas San José. The material consists of photos, plus newspapers' and magazines' clippings.
