- Description: This envelope mainly informs us about the economic and financial situations in San Juan. The growing importance of vineyards continued but in the last decade of 1930s and the early 1940s, the production of olive oil started to set off. In terms of industry, it was scarce although mining was and is an important activity given its mountainous geography. However, by the 1930s, San Juan was struggling to overcome economic backwardness. Extent and format of original material: This envelope contains maps, typewritten document titled "La verdad sobre la situación económica de San Juan" (or The truth about the economic situation of San Juan) by Carlos Valenzuela, Minister of Finance and Public Works, with a letter to the Director of the company's newspaper El Mundo, Carlos Muzzio Sáenz Peña, clarifying that the document was presented to the Argentine President and describing its content--the document studies the tax regime of San Juan and its budget. This envelope also contains photos, newspapers' and magazines' clippings, and a bibliographic reference.
