- Title:
- Cultura Comisión Nacional de [1930s-1960s]
- Scope & Content:
- Description: This Commission was in charge of the Errázuriz Palace that was bought by the Argentine state in 1930s.The palace began to be created in 1910 by the Chilean diplomat Matías Errázuriz and his wife Josefina de Alvear. Its building was interrupted during the First World War due to the scarcity of materials as the family wanted the mansion to be built with European supplies. Certainly it is one of the most beautiful houses in Buenos Aires. Many architects and artists collaborated in its construction. Sergent was the designer although he never came to supervise his creation; it follows the format of the private grand hotel and the French School of Academicism. Other important personalities participated in the erection of the palace: the grand central salon was directly supervised by George Nelson, the dining room was built in marble by George Hontschel, the small salon of Mr. Errázuriz was the work of Josep Maria Sert, while André Carihian was in charge of the salons made of wood, and the gardens were in the hands of the landscape designer Achille Duchéne. To-day we can admire this piece of notable architecture as it is the host of the Museum of Decorative Art. Extent and format of original material: Envelope containing 4 envelopes that contain newspapers' and magazines' clippings, plus photos.
