- Description: When the city was founded three schools were created by the President of Argentina: the Industrial School, the Professional School for women, and the Commercial School (Escuela Comercial). Four years earlier, the school Joaquín V. González was also created by Presidential Decree directly depending from La Plata University. The Colegio de Señoritas (Young Girls School) was created in 1907 as a high school dependent of the University of La Plata. This school has changed throughout the different decades characterised by ideological pluralism and a democratic praxis. Its actual name is Liceo Víctor Mercante allowing both male and female students. Father Miguel de Garicoits founded the Congregation of Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Betharram. They were missioners that created in La Plata founding a school and the chapel Our Lady of Betharram. Extent and format of original material: The company’s archivists had collected different kinds of information for the subject “Schools in La Plata.” Thus, we fin handwritten in red pencil on the envelope the number 18. This means, that this is the 18th envelope on this subject. The envelope contains sub-envelopes with information on different secondary schools of the capital city of the province of Buenos Aires, La Plata: Industrial, Joaquín V. González, Nuestra Señora de la Misericordia del Sagrado Corazón, Señoritas among others. The material consists of: newsapapers' and magazines' clippings, articles written on the subject, engravings, and photos.
