- Description: With the 1930 military coup led by General Uriburu, the state starts to intervene increasingly in Argentina’s life. The minority that composes the new political class that was a social and economic minority of the most privileged created a nationalist and elitist corporation: the Liga Patriótica (Patriotic League). It was founded in 1919 in order to repress the immigrants in the notorious Semana Trágica (Tragic Week). Their slogan was “Order and Fatherland” and was directed by the nationalist professor Manuel Carlés. Alberto Garía Torres was a politician who was part of this infamous society.
