(1). Newspaper cutting entitled 'Fifty years of forestry' [August 1969], referring to 50th birthday of the Commission (founded 1919).
(2). 'The Sinking Colony'. Two drafts, in autograph and in typescript/autograph, including some notes (13 sheets). Dated July-October 1969.
(3). 'Today'. Autograph draft (2 sheets) and typed copy (1 sheet) with pencil corrections. Dated 13-29 January 1970. Poem 223, Add MS 88998/6/4.
(4). 'The Big Hand'. Autograph pencil draft (2 sheets) and typed copy (1 sheet) with pencil corrections. Dated 27-28 January 1970. Poem 222, Add MS 88998/6/4.
(5). 'Denmark Lecture'. Various autograph notes on contemporary poetry. Dated Monday 12 January 1970.
(6). 'Grand / for Peter Riley'. Autograph draft (1 sheet) and typed copy (1 sheet). Dated 10-16 February 1970 - poem 226, Add MS 88998/6/4, where it is entitled 'Grand Denmark'. With typed poem (1 sheet) by Peter Riley (beginning: 'and it is true, that we move across').
(7). Three (unrelated) items:
- Pencil notes on green notepaper (1 sheet), including the date '13.i.70'.
- Folded sheet of brown wrapping paper with very very faint writing on the inside.
- Notes referring to 'Inside the harm is a clearing', and also referencing the poetry of John Temple (16 November 1970). See also the notes relating to this poem in item 10 below.
(8). Autograph draft of 'Brooklyn' (poem 229, Add MS 88998/6/4) here entitled 'Staten Island Ferry'. Dated October 1970. 1 sheet with additional notes on a scrap of brown paper.
(9). Draft poem beginning 'Yes, being your lover'. Autograph draft material, including notes and two typescript texts. The poem was subsequently entitled 'Red Car / for Michelene Wandor' (see poem 232, Add MS 88998/6/4). The poem was in origin two poems (composed October 1970 and March 1971) joined by a two-line bridge: 'Yes, I can turn it out, / keep on rolling'.
(10). Material relating to 'Country Diary continued', comprising: newspaper cutting ('I used to shoot a bit in Africa'), autograph notes made during a visit to Frank and Elizabeth Prince, and (originally clipped together with the notes) a pencil note dated 25 December 1970 relating to Landscapes (on the back of an envelope) and two typed quotations from Jean Cocteau and Raymond Roussel.
(11). 'Video film Animal Days' (7-8 February 1971). Autograph outline notes (carbon, 1 sheet).
(12). Draft poetry fragments, dated 23 March 1971. (1 sheet).
(13). Empty envelope (from Chicago State College, addressed to Harwood at Better Books and franked 7 June 1971) bearing various notes including draft lines of poetry ('hold me / outside the rain falling in the street') from 'Qasida Island'.
(14). 'Qasida Island' in typescript and autograph draft (dated July-August 1971). The order of the poems (left as found) differs from the order in H.M.S. Little Fox.
(15). Two poems in typescript both entitled '15-9-71 Exeter'. One poem is annotated to indicate that the location is California rather than Devon. (2 sheets typescript and 1 sheet autograph notes.) The poems do not appear in the chronological sequence of fair copies (Add MS 88998/6).
(16). Letter (carbon typescript, 3 sheets), Harwood to Eric Mottram, 30 December 1971. 'I am leaving for Athens (I believe) on 10th January, so here's a letter to tie a few loose ends up before I head towards points south and east.' Supplying Tristan Tzara bibliographical information to Mottram for Poetry Review (ed. Mottram), and an extensive extempore 'statement' on (Harwood's) writing and poetics.
(17). 'Selections from Notebooks/Journals'. Typed extracts including a number of quotations. Spanning: January-September 1972 (Paros), October 1972 (England), November 1972 - March 1973 (Boston, Massachusetts). 5 sheets.
