File contains correspondence regarding publication, translation and promotion, and attendance by Swift at various events around the UK, including schedules for these events
Specifically, the file comprises:
- Correspondence relating to the proofing, final editing and cover design of Making an Elephant between Swift and Kate Harvey, Editorial Director at Picador publishers.
- Correspondence relating to the publication of Making an Elephant in America through Vintage Books, a sister company of Knopf publishers (Random House), dated between 31 October 2009 to 25 May 2010 and is chiefly with Senior Editor Lexy Bloom, but there is also an email from Russell Perrault, Director of Publicity, which starts the interaction between Swift and the publisher.
- An email conversation with Thomas Skassis, the Greek translator of Making an Elephant, which deals in detail with specific moments of the work with which Skassis had difficulty translating or understanding, and Swift's clarification of these.
- Correspondence, chiefly between Swift, agent Jacqueline Graham and A.P. Watt agents, and related notes, regarding attendance at various public events with which Swift was involved or to which he was invited, including schedules for day events and travelling, some annotated by Swift. These events include the Edinburgh, Salisbury and Cheltenham Festivals; the Aye Write! Glasgow Literature Festival; the Hay Festival; the University of East Anglia Spring Literary Festival (an advert for this event featuring Swift in included in the file); the Charleston Festival, and Words By The Water literary event in Keswick, Cumbria.
- 1 stand-alone printed email message dated 25 May 2011 from agent Jacqueline Graham to Swift regarding stocks of Making an Elephant in various London bookstores, apparently for the purposes of a book signing event planned on 26 May 2011.
File retains original file cover sheets in Swift's hand.
