- 2. ff. 11-14. Song: 'Never seek to tell thy love'. For tenor and piano. Dyeline copy of autograph score, signed and dated in the original score: New York, June 1943. Words: William Blake. For further settings of Blake by Arnell, see MS Mus. 1774/3/8.
- 3. 15-84. Cantata: 'The War God', Op. 36. For solo soprano, chorus and orchestra. Words: Stephen Spender. Dyeline copy of autograph score, ff. 15-75 (pp. 1-116). Signed and dated in the original score at the end of the work: 30 September 1944. The dedication to Bernard Herrmann has been added to the copy score in black ink. With dyeline copy of vocal score, ff 76-84 (pp. 1-8) (first movement only), dated 1945, and marked (red ink, front cover): 'Composer's copy / Revision 1'. Arnell has also added the following first performance details to the front cover of the vocal score: Columbia Broadcasting Company, New York 1946. Cond. Bernard Herrmann. Soprano: Evelyn Pasen.
