- 1. ff. 1-34. 'Last Song', Op. 181. For voice and piano. Words: Robert Bridges. Autograph score, black ink (2 bifolia, 300 x 210 mm), dated 8 November 1995. Paste-over corrections, bars 47-50. With computer-printed score, and pencil sketch material in a music manuscript book marked 'Roberts Music'. Commissioned by Ian Bruce Jones. Dedicated to the soprano Yvonne Robert (referred to as 'Roberts' in the autograph score).
- 2. ff. 35-84. 'Five Emily Songs', Op. 182. For voice and piano. Words: Emily Dickinson. Autograph scores (1996) in black and blue ink for five settings of poems by Dickinson: 'They say that time assuages'; 'I'm nobody. Who are you?'; 'I stepped from plank to plank'; 'Drowning is not pitiful'; 'It sounded as if the streets were running'. Together with computer-printed score (24 March 1996), pp. 1-15, title-page and biographical information about Dickinson and Arnell. Also, autograph notes (6 ff.) on the rhythm, style and mood of each poem (dated 14 and 28 November 1995); some of the notes are made on the versos of photocopies of an autograph letter (16 October 1995) from Arnell to Sir Yehudi Menhuin, asking to be included in the 50th Anniversary of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and emphasising his 'long association with the orchestra and with Beecham'.
- 3. ff. 85-162. Hoffman Cantata, Op. 183. For bass and piano. Words: Ralph Gustafson. Dedicated to Donald Hoffman. Autograph score in black ink, signed and dated: Benhall, Suffolk, and Collobrières, 1996. The Cantata comprises four settings: 'Desperate Saga'; 'Mrs Mozart hung the bird's cage'; 'Sarajevo 1994'; 'The True Story of the Flood'. Words applied to the score by adhesive tape. Also, pencil sketch material on paper of different sizes. The file includes an undated autograph letter from Betty [Gustafson] to Tony and Joan Arnell informing them of the death of Ralph Gustafson (1995); the letter is attached to a list of paintings for sale by the actress and Saxmundham neighbour to Arnell, Joanna Dunham (1936-2014).
