Lee-Warner Collection: Portraits 1869-1905. Photographer(s): Unknown
- Scope & Content:
-
Quarter-leather volume (modern rebinding by India Office Library) measuring 300 x 245 mm, containing 92 mounted and five loose prints. The majority of the photographs are cabinet-size portraits of leading political and military personalities in India in the last quarter of the 19th century; appended to many of the portraits are signatures of the individuals concerned, evidently removed from letters to Sir William Lee-Warner and pasted into the album with the photographs. From print 78 onwards more miscellaneous material appears, including family groups, photographic copies of cartoons and views of English scenery. A typescript list of contents (presumably prepared by Miss Lee-Warner) indicates that some non-photographic material has been removed and that some re-ordering of the contents has taken place when the album was re-bound.
