Lee-Warner Collection: Bombay Presidency. William Lee Warner C.S. Photographer(s): Hooper and Western
- Scope & Content:
-
Green half-leather bound album measuring 390 x 315 mm, containing mounted and loose prints, some captioned on album page, some on reverse of print, a number uncaptioned. The album is a companion volume and similar in style to Photo 2/3. The album contains a mixture of subjects (and some non-Indian views), and includes formal groups of the Governor of Bombay and staff, some architectural studies, many hunting scenes and a number of amateur views of lower quality. Prints 5-15 are from a commercially-marketed series of photographs by Willoughby Wallace Hooper and George Western entitled Tiger Shooting. The precise date of these photographs is unknown, but a cutting from an unidentified newspaper in the Royal Geographical Society indicates that the set was available, probably around 1872, for a price of Rs.20, through Mr Preston, Librarian at Secunderabad.
