Reading Collection: 'Visit of Their Excellencies Lord & Lady Reading to Baroda January 1926'.

Black full leather bound album measuring 320x430mm, with title as above stamped in gold within decorative border beneath Baroda (modern Vadodara) State coat of arms. Prints are mounted on page within white ink borders and with captions, also in white ink, written in a florid cursive script beneath each photograph.
The album records the Viceroy's visit to Baroda from 21-23 January 1926. A programme of events mounted in Photo 10/26 gives the following timetable, most of the events being documented in this album, although not in rigid chronological sequence:
Thursday 21 January.
Arrival at Baroda Railway Station, carriage and motor procession to Makarpura Palace; Mizaj Pursi; dinner party at Makarpura Palace.
Friday 22 January.
Inspection of state jewels and the gold and silver guns; Gaekwar makes official visit to Viceroy and Makarpura; Viceroy makes official visit to Gaekwar at Lakshmi Vilas Palace; Arena sports; state banquet and fireworks.
Saturday 23 January.
Cheetah hunt; Children's gathering at the Nyaya Mandir; laying of Science Institute foundation stone; garden party at the Moti Bagh; small dinner party at Makarpura; departure.
