Full-leather album, 370x490mm, containing mounted prints with numbered letterpress captions. Pages are interleaved with tissue. The title is stamped in gold on the front cover along with the Junagarh State coat of arms and a label which reads: 'Photographs by Solankee Studio, Rajkot'. Many of the prints in the album are of poor quality due to high degrees of contrast and there is evidence that some of these are copy prints after earlier photographs making accurate dating difficult. For example, Print 10 is a copy of Photo 2/6 (4) taken in the 1890's by F. Nelson and Print 73 was clearly taken before Photo 2/6 (46). This copying of prints rather than printing from original negatives may account for the 'contrasty' images. Many of the photographs are duplicated by better-quality copies in Photo 430/38, an album presented to Lord Curzon in 1900, and it likely that the majority of the views (apart from a few early portraits and prints specifically relating to Lord Willingdon's visit) date from around this period.
Process = Gelatine prints
Photographers = Solankee Studio, Rajkot; F.Nelson., ;
