Blue and black half-leather album, measuring 547 mm x 365 mm, containing mounted prints with letterpress and manuscript captions. The collection also includes photographs and caricatures from newspapers The album is untitled but the front cover has the initials C. M. W. stamped in gold. The album is also in poor condition and requires rebinding and cleaning of mounts. The photographs relate to Reading's first year as Viceroy in India, from his arrival in Bombay, via Aden, in April 1921, to his visit to Peshawar in March 1922. The collection combines snapshots and official and commercial photographs in the following order: Journey to India; Boxing match aboard the SS Kaiser-I-Hind; arrival in Port Said; arrival and Guard of Honour at Aden; arrival at Bombay; portraits, including Sir George and Lady Lloyd; garden party at the Willingdon Club; Shalimar Gardens, Lahore; garden party, group portrait with the Viceroy, Governor and Punjab Sardars; Simla Building the new Legislative Assembly, Viceregal Lodge, Simla, including good interiors; portraits of viceregal staff and dignitaries, the Infant Welfare Centre; Naini Tal, Viceregal group at Government House; Simla, opening of the Legislative Assembly; Srinagar, topographical views, state arrival, hunting scenes, Shalimar Gardens; Simla, Viceregal Lodge, bazaar, Gurkha sentry; Dehra Dun, Doon Court; Benares, topographical views, ghat scenes; Bombay, state arrival of the Prince of Wales, 17th November 1921, including the procession, meeting dignitaries and addresses of welcome; Calcutta, arrival of Viceroy, garden party given by the Maharajadhiraj of Burdwan, Victoria Memorial, shipping on the Hooghly; Benares, viceregal group with the Maharaja; Calcutta, state arrival at the racecourse, Belvedere; Bikaner, Lalgarh Palace, portraits including the Maharaja, New Year's Day Parade, grouse shoot; Agra, Taj Mahal, Fort; Fatehpur Sikri, Pearl Mosque; Delhi, Legislative Assembly, Jami Masjid, Viceregal Lodge, view of the Qutb Minar, Purana Qila; Jaipur, hunting scenes; Alwar, portraits on the steps of the Shooting Lodge, hunting; Peshawar, camel market, rifle factory; Landi Kotal, visit of the Viceroy and C-in-C to the Khyber Pass; Srinagar, Shalimar Gardens.
