Kitchener of Khartoum Collection: Views in Bundi. Photographer(s): Johnston and Hoffmann
- Scope & Content:
-
Blue half-leather album, 310 x 385 mm, containing mounted prints with letterpress captions pasted on to the facing page. Pages are interleaved with tissue although this should be removed and minor foxing treated. The album has the title 'Photographs' stamped in gold on the front cover. The inside front cover has a label which reads: 'Presented to the India Office Library by the Rt. Hon. the Earl Kitchener of Khartoum on 1 October 1959'. This is inaccurate as the collection was presented by his son, Lord Kitchener. A small blue label on the same page reads: 'Bound at the Caxton Works, Bombay'. The photographer's ink stamp is below Print 17. The album contains architectural and topographical views in Bundi but also includes portraits of the late Maharaja and the ruling Maharaja.
