Kitchener of Khartoum Collection: 'Kheddah Operations as witnessed by Their Royal Highnesses the Prince & Princess of Wales in the Kakankota Forests of Mysore, Feb. 1906'. Photographer(s): Barton Son and Company
- Scope & Content:
-
Brown full-leather album, measuring 310 x 395 mm, containing mounted prints interleaved with sheets of paper. Letterpress captions appear below the prints and are repeated on the overlay sheet where fuller descriptions are provided. The title is stamped in gold on the front cover which includes two illustrations of elephants. A label inside the front cover states that the album was: 'Presented to the India Office Library by the Rt. Hon. the Earl Kitchener of Khartoum on 1 October 1959', however the album was in fact the gift of his son Lord Kitchener. The title page includes the caption: 'Photographs taken by the command of His Highness the Maharaja of Mysore by Messrs. Barton, Son & Co., Bangalore'. An eight page introduction follows by M. Mutannah, RB, Conservator of Forests in Mysore in which the kheddah operations are described.
