- (1). ff. 1-6. 'Tintinnalogia' (1983). Sketch material (f. 5) and written notes on the versos of unrelated matter (one of which is an autograph letter from Joseph Horovitz, dated 15 May 1983, referring to Arnell's string quartets and to his own). For synthesiser (bell sounds). Refers to images to accompany sounds. Outer bifolium headed 'Day One May 23 1983'.
- (2). ff. 7-19. Four sketches retained together in buff folder: sketch for cello (ff. 9-10) dated 11 June 1989; 'Divertimento 4' (ff. 13-15) dated 3 May 1989; 'Fanfare' for LIFS (London International Film School) and 'Time We Understood' (1 bifolium, ff. 18-19, containing both sketches).
- (3). ff. 20-21. 'Accompanied Fugato for Virgil' [Thomson], Op. 163. Signed pencil sketch (f. 20) dated 5 October 1989, with original buff storage envelope.
- (4). ff. 23-56. 'Music for Michaela', Op. 167. In original buff storage envelope, a pencil and ink sketch (1 f.) for descant recorder, dated 1-2 February 1991. Together with written notes (1990-91) for 'Village Song' (also called Op. 167), considered for baritone, with words by Bryan Guinness. Other poems by Guinness are included with the material and further notes by Arnell suggesting other settings of Guinness also contemplated.
