Miscellaneous letters (and related material) originally retained together by Arnell in a single file, comprising:
- (1). ff. 3-4. Typed words [c 1960] in Welsh for 'Wales' (Op. 94).
- (2). ff. 5-12. Correspondence relating to Robert Flaherty: typed letter (1975) from Monica [Flaherty] (daughter); postcard (1988) from Monica [Flaherty]; typed letter (21 July 1989) from Kazuyuki Yano (Director of International Documentary Film Festival, Yamagata, 1989); photocopy autograph letter (1989) from Arnell to Professor John Paynter, University of York, regarding plans for a symphonic orchestral work to accompany a screening of Flaherty's Nanook of the North. With a draft note by Arnell on the proposed work.
- (3). ff. 14-15. Autograph letter signed (23 May 1983) from Stephen Spender, and autograph letter signed [1983] from Michael Kernan (staff writer, Washington Post). Both letters appear to relate to Arnell's War God.
- (4). ff. 17-22. Notes and brief correspondence including a letter (1986) from John Halas regarding music for French animation films (Night on Bare Mountain and The Nose).
- (5). ff. 24-29. 'Ode to the West Wind' (Op. 59). Five letters (1987-89) from David Lowe regarding a performance by Bromley Symphony Orchestra (13 May 1989), soloist Olivia Blackburn. Includes biography of Blackburn.
- (6). ff. 31-36. 'I think of all soft limbs' (Op. 122). Letter (1988) from Stephen Plaistow, BBC Editor Contemporary Music, with carbon copy reply from Arnell (enclosing 'Soft Limbs'), and a longer draft letter by Arnell not sent. Plaistow was 'disappointed' with the cassette of 'Event 35/70 - 24 Hours in TT Scale'.
- (7). f. 38. Typed signed letter (10 December 1989) from Brian Rayner Cook (baritone).
- (8). ff. 39-88. 'Cretaceous Intermission' (Op. 120). Words: Ronald Duncan. Introduction to the work, in Arnell's hand, together with rough score (an incomplete revision for chorus of a computer-printed score).
- (9). ff. 89-93. Correspondence (1989) relating to Alpha and Omega (Op. 138).
- (10). ff. 95-105. Two letters (1991-92) from Peter Wright (Birmingham Royal Ballet) relating to The Angels (Op. 81).
- (11). f. 98. Autograph letter signed (24 March 1992) from Vladimir Ashkenazy. 'If your piece [for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, to celebrate 40th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II] could be timed with one of my concerts, I'll be delighted to be the conductor.'
- (12). ff. 99-104. 'Piano Trio'. Three letters (1992) from Ian Lake; and two letters (1992) from Jillian White (Senior Music Producer, BBC South). The opus number of Arnell's Piano Trio (Op. 47?) is not indicated in the letters.
- (13). ff. 106-108. Autograph signed letter (20 March 1994) from Stephen Spender regarding Arnell's interest in Dolphins (1994). Arnell has written out the words only of the title-poem on music paper (1 bifolium).
