Joyce Collection: Burmese Constitutional Discussions, London. Photographer(s): Unknown
- Scope & Content:
-
Red cloth bound album measuring 255x297mm, with prints mounted one to a page and with typescript captions on paper slips pasted beneath each photograph. The album records some events during the visit of the Burmese delegation headed by U Aung San to discuss progress towards Burmese independence. The visit was announced in Parliament on 20 December 1946, and discussions took place between 13 January 1947 and the signing of an agreement on 27 January 1947. This album concentrates on three events during the visit: the arrival of the delegation at London Airport, a visit to the Empire Flying Training School at Hullavington in Wiltshire, and a reception at India House, London. For full details of the mission, see Hugh Tinker (ed.), 'Burma The Struggle for Independence 1944-1948' (vol. II, pp.147-208).
