- Scope & Content:
-
Maroon and black half-leather album compiled by Arthur Brandreth (ICS Bengal from 1851), 330x475mm, containing mounted albumen prints with handwritten captions. The word 'Album' is stamped in gold on the front cover. The front free endpaper has a letterpress label which reads: 'A. Brandreth...81, Onslow Square, South Kensington'. Overleaf a partially torn dedication reads: '...from Arthur and Ma[ry?], Christmas 1871. Jan 11 1872'. A hand-drawn title-page with pink and black lettering on a blue floral background reads: 'Views in Simla, Cashmere and the Punjaub'. This style of heading is repeated on the pages which divide the album into the following locations: 'Simla', 'Cashmere', 'Muree &c', 'Goojranwala', 'Lahore' and 'Lord Mayo, Kangra Tour &c'. The photographs consist of topographical and architectural views and portraits from the areas listed above.
