Photographic copy of a sketch by Edward Durand, Assistant Commissioner, Afghan Boundary Commission. The letterpress description of this scene (from the printed list accompanying the duplicate set of these prints at Photo 12), reads: ''Kaisar' the Tamarisk stream, some 4 or 5 marches after leaving Quettah. We had to do the marches between here and Quettah by night, because of the intense heat even in October, and indeed from Quetta to the Helmund was all night marching and the heat very severe.' Another copy at Photo 12 (++). The original wash drawing from which this reproduction is copied in held in The British Library, shelfmark WD376.
