The Nilgiri Railway Photographs Photographer(s): Boesinger, Philip
- Scope & Content:
-
Dark green half-leather bound album (considerably scuffed), measuring 232x468mm with title as above stamped in gold on front cover. The front endpapers contain the library label of the Institution of Civil Engineers and a label recording the album's presentation by W. J. Weightman M.I.C.E. (Chief Engineer to the Nilgiri Railway Company) to that library. The album was received by the Institution of Civil Engineers on 27 October 1898, and transferred at some later date to the India Office (where it was originally placed in the Map Collection).
The album contains a series of views of the line, embankments, cuttings, bridges and stations along the sixteen miles of its length between Mettapolian (modern Mettuppalaiyam) and Coonor. Much of this material is duplicated in Photo 383/2.
