The prints document Stein's short expedition to the Jhelum district to pinpoint the precise location of Alexander the Great's crossing of the Jhelum River. The prints document the last part of Stein's trip to the Jhelum District and the beginning of his Iranian journey in January 1932. This album covers the period 17 April to 24 May 1932, bringing us to the conclusion of the tour in Instanbul at print 242. There then follows a short series of prints (243–254) from the beginning of the tour (4-21 January). Prints 444–492 Brown cloth covered album measuring 230 x 155 mm, containing 49 prints in aperture mounts measuring 73 x 98 mm. The album continues the documentation up to the end of the tour of Swat and the return to camp at Mohand Marg near Srinagar. The album covers the period 29 April to 3 October 1933, with a further group of views (prints 480–492) for which the dating is uncertain (two of the prints are dated June 1935, but it is unclear whether the others are from the same period). Prints 454–479 were taken at Stein's camp at Mohand Marg and at Srinagar between May and October 1933, after the abandonment of the Swat tour due to a riding accident. Other locations from the Swat journey featured in the album are: Bir-kot, Chinar-tangai, Gumbatai, Gumbatuna, Malakand, Markhano-khwar.
