Scope & Content:

A collection of 139 duplicate negatives made from original nitrate negatives now destroyed, with 169 prints (some duplicates). The photographs cover the same period as Photo 392/40, viz. Stein's archaeological investigations in Iraq and Trans-Jordan from December 1938 to April 1939. This collection does not include the important series of aerial photographs taken during the surveys.

The photographs run from J.O. 1-183 in Stein's numbering, but the negative series lacks the following numbers: 1, 2, 9, 12, 18, 19, 33, 36, 41, 55-8, 60, 62-3, 72, 77, 82, 84-6, 99, 101, 106, 133-4, 136, 139, 141, 143, 149-50, 152, 157-8, 162, 164, 169, 173, 175-6, 183. Some of these missing negatives are available in print form only in the print series.
