Collection of prints and negatives of objects, manuscripts and woodslips collected during Stein's Fourth Central Asian Expedition and photographed at Kashgar; with some associated correspondence relating to the production of 'improved' copy negatives made at the Thomason Civil Engineering College, Roorkee. The collection comprises:

22 glass negatives, mostly measuring 120 mm x 164 mm, from T.O. series. T.O. 15, 16, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 28, 37 are copy negatives made from the re-worked film negatives which have been retouched to improve legibility of the scripts. T.O. 53-60 are landscape views, principally of mountain scenery, taken during the expedition. Plus one unidentified glass negative of a manuscript, possibly unconnected with this series and one smaller, broken negative, numbered K.28

58 negatives on Kodak direct duplicating film, made from T.O. series glass negatives and nitrate negatives now destroyed. These comprise: T.O. 1-8, mountain scenery; T.O. 15-46, manuscripts and artefacts collected during Fourth Expedition; T.O. 47-60, landscapes. These last were made from glass negatives, the majority of which survive

152 gelatin silver prints of artefacts collected during the expedition. These prints, the majority in multiple copies of four or more, exist in several states: were made from the negative series T.O.15-T.O.46 and from 'improved' glass copy negatives
