- (1). ff. 1-26. Rough notes about the composition (1992-93).
- (2). ff. 27-82. Correspondence and publicity. Includes original proposal (to set Coleridge's poem 'Kubla Khan' for mixed chorus, keyboard and tape). Various letters, including several from Michael Kibblewhite (Musical Director, Harlow Chorus), and a copy letter from Eastern Arts Board agreeing an award towards the commission of the work. Amongst other letters, two letters from Joseph Horovitz. Also, a draft press release and poster for the world premiere performance at Ely Cathedral, 24 April 1993, by Harlow Chorus, cond. Kibblewhite.
- (3). ff. 83-86. Also included (originally housed in a small separate file), a newspaper cutting (Observer, 24 March 1985: 'Rupert goes to Hollywood') reporting that 'Rupert Murdoch will have 100 per cent control of Twentieth Century Fox by Christmas'. The cutting is annotated by Arnell: 'Kane? May 20/85'. Accompanied by Arnell's brief notes (1 sheet) of the same date about the film Citizen Kane (in which Kane's mansion and estate is called 'Xanadu'). 'Does this work operatically?' Arnell asks himself.
