Draft proposal and preliminary papers, including some sketch material, for a work based upon Coleridge, 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner'. In his draft proposal (1995), Arnell writes: 'In 1991, I was invited to compose for the Harlow Chorus and I chose the "Mariner" but quickly realised it was too lengthy and too theatrical for a concert-style choral piece. So I set "Xanadu", a realisation of Kubla Khan instead.'
The file comprises:
- (1). ff. 2-8. Autograph proposal (1995), with a typed note referring to possible sources of funding (including Suffolk College).
- (2). ff. 9-25. 'Story line' dividing the poem into 26 parts (A-Z). With a photocopy of the poem annotated with timings.
- (3). ff. 26-35. Various notes (1991-92), including pencil sketch (1 folio).
