Title:

Curzon Collection: Views of Government House, Calcutta, exterior and gates, illustrating restorations undertaken by Lord Curzon. Photographer(s): Bourne and Shepherd

Scope & Content:

Collection of eight prints, uncaptioned, in excellent condition, lightly tipped onto thin card, blind embossed 'Bourne & Shepherd India'. Part of the original brown paper wrapping has the following pencilled note in Lord Curzon's hand: 'Government House Exterior & Gates on my time (after restoration). Bourne & Shepherd. 3 possible. 1. N. front. 2. S. front. 3. W. front'. These 'possibles' presumably refer to use of the photographs in Curzon's 'British Government in India: the Story of the Viceroys and Government Houses' (London, 1925).
