Black, soft-covered photograph album (front cover detached) measuring 203 mm x 280 mm and containing prints mounted two to a page, uncaptioned, between tissue interleaving. A typescript label addressed to Corfield and pasted to the inside of the front cover reads, The tour of the Hon'ble the Resident for the Punjab States in Bawal on the 23rd and 24th January 1943. Forwarded with the compliments of His Highness the Maharaja Sahib Malvendra Bahadur of Nabha.
The album records events during Corfield's visit to Nabha, and includes his arrival at Bawal railway station and welcome by the Chief Minister Sardar Shiv Dev Singh and other officials, tour and inspection of Police Lines, inspection of boy scouts, visits to Rest House, Court House, prison, etc. The only captioned prints in the album show, 'National War Front gathering at Nabha' (print 30), 'Nabha, arrival by day' (print 39) and 'Nabha, departure by night' (print 31).
Biographical note: Sir Conrad Laurence Corfield (1893-1980) joined the Indian Civil Service in 1920 and transferred to the Political Department in 1925, serving in Kathiawar, Baluchistan, Rajasthan, Central India and Hyderabad. He was Joint Secretary, Political Department, Simla, 1934-38, Resident at Jaipur 1938-40, Resident for the Punjab States, 1941-45, and Political Adviser to the Viceroy as Crown Represenative 1945-47.
