Brown full leather bound album measuring 360x290mm, decorated with stamped patterns in gold leaf on covers, containing mounted prints, uncaptioned. Several of the album leaves in the first half of the volume are embellished with watercolour decorations around the prints in the form of flowers and plants. The subject matter can be broadly broken down as follows:
Prints 1-20. Scenery in the Nilgiris (Coonor and Ootacamund).
Prints 24-30. Views at Secunderabad and Hyderabad.
Prints 31-43. Burma and the Andaman Islands.
Prints 44-61. South Indian types: portrait tableaux and occupations.
Prints 62-66. Military and hunting scenes, Madras.
Prints 67-77. Egypt (aftermath of the Bombardment of Alexandria and the Battle of Tel el Kebir, 1882).
Prints 81-4. Aden.
Prints 85-108. Miscellaneous South Indian views, military, topographical, etc., most probably taken in Bellary.
Duplicates (generally in very poor condition) of many of the South Indian views can be found in Photo 447/5, and a few are also duplicated in Photo 2/2 and 2/3.
