-
Glass copy negative from a print of a photograph by Willoughy Wallace Hooper, Provost-Marshal with the Burma Expeditonary Force of 1885-6, showing three Burmese dacoits about to be executed by firing squad in front of the walls of Mandalay. With two modern film duplicates. The negative is wrapped in thick brown paper on which is written a long descriptive note by Clement William Hooper, the photographer's cousin. Hooper's photographic career, and the circumstances in which this photograph was taken, are described in John Falconer, 'Willoughby Wallace Hooper: 'A craze about photography'' (The photographic collector, vol.4, No.3, Winter 1983, pp.258-86).
