Scope & Content:

Red half-leather bound album measuring 278x382mm, spine piece missing and boards detached from album block. Prints are lightly attached to the album leaves at corners with thin glued paper strips, some of which are made from regimental crests on letterheads. A number of prints are detached from the album leaves and have been inserted in Secol sleeves. The majority of prints have hand-written captions on the album page beneath the image, while a few are captioned in the negative. Some captions have also been taken from pencilled titles on the reverse of the print.

The album contains commercially produced architectural and topographical views at Bombay, Gibraltar, Agra, Allahabad, Cawnpore, Delhi, Amritsar, Lahore, Suez, Lucknow, Benares, Malta, Calcutta, Sarnath, Mussoorie, Sarnath, Colombo, Kosigi, Madras and Raichur. The majority of the prints date from the 1870s-80s. Only the six loose prints (73-9) inserted at the end of the album date from the 20th century.
