Collection of loose prints, some mounted and captioned, from the collection of Sir Samuel Findlater Stewart. The material can be broken down into the following categories:
Prints 1-7 Topographical and architectural views at Abu and Agar, 1900s.
Prints 8-9 Group portraits of members of the Commission on the Indian Civil Service (Lee Commission), 1923-4.
Prints 10-15 Group portraits of members of the Indian Statutory Commission (Simon Commission), taken at various locations in India, Burma and London, 1928-30.
Prints 16-20 Miscellaneous groups in England, mostly unidentified.
Sir Samuel Findlater Stewart (1879-1960), entered the India Office in 1903 and became Joint Secretary of the Military Department in 1920. He was Secretary to the Lee Commission 1923-24 and to the Simon Commission 1927-30. He served as Permanent Under Secretary of State for India from 1930-42 and retired in 1945.
