Sir Samuel Findlater Stewart Collection: Indian snapshots

Miscellaneous collection of small loose snapshots of Indian scenes, the majority with handwritten captions on the reverse. The prints show scenes at Agra, Delhi, Allahabad, Fatehpur Sikri, Lucknow, Mahabaleshwar, Mt Abu, Patna, Sikandra, etc. The pictures are of very indifferent amateur quality and have not been individually listed. They were probably taken while Stewart was serving as Secretary to the Simon Commission.
Sir Samuel Findlater Stewart (1879-1960), entered the India Office in 1903 and became Joint Secretary of the Military Department in 1920. He was Secretary to the Lee Commission 1923-24 and to the Simon Commission 1927-30. He served as Permanent Under Secretary of State for India from 1930-42 and retired in 1945.
