The collection can be broken down into the followings subject areas:
Prints 1-41 Miscellaneous topographical views of Calcutta and surrounding districts, 1890s.
Prints 42-75 Indian views, mainly Darjeeling.
Prints 76-77 Views at Simla.
Prints 78-105 Pages from a disbound album with views of Darjeeling, Calcutta, England and unidentified locations, 1900s.
Prints 106-116 Miscellanous views of survey party at Dumraon 1898, Balochistan or Afghanistan scenes, local sailing boat (on the Hugli?), Japanese umbrella maker.
Prints 117-118 Two miscellaneous mounted prints.
Prints 119-138 Photographic Department of the Survey of India, Calcutta: photographic staff at work, studios, etc., c.1911. This batch also includes a selection of work carried out by the department - photo-etchings, autotypes, etc., made from photographic originals.
Prints 139-141 Delhi Durbar, 1903. Photographs by Bourne & Shepherd.
Prints 142-160 Examples of photo-mechanical reproductions produced by the Survey of India Photographic Department, Calcutta.
The original glass negatives with modern contact prints for a number of these views will be found in Photo 527/2. This is noted in the main print listing where relevant.
