Padded full leather cabinet portrait album measuring 218x185mm, with metal clasp, containing cabinet portraits inserted in apertures (some pages empty). Several of the prints are inscribed to Sir Hugh Barnes second wife, Edith Helen (whose maiden name was also Barnes), and it was probably she who compiled the album.
Sir Hugh Shakespear Barnes (1853-1940), Indian Civil Service 1874; Assisant Secretary, Foreign Office 1879; Political Officer, Kandahar 1880; Political Agent, Quetta 1883; Revenue Commissioner, Quetta 1891; Resident, Kashmir 1894; Foreign Secretary to Government of India 1900-03; Lieutenant-Governor of Burma 1903-05; Member of the Council of India 1905-13.
