Macnabb Collection (Colonel James Henry Erskine Reid): Album of views of Bombay and Bijapur. Photographer(s): Unknown
- Scope & Content:
-
Cloth-covered album, measuring 255 x 266 mm, bound by Mildred Reid. The insignia on the front cover is that of J. H. E. Reid. The photographs are loosely inserted in corner slits and have original captions on the verso and occasional modern captions on the mount. The prints include original albumen prints and later prints from original paper negatives. The views include Bombay Fort prior to its dismantling in 1864, the Cathedral and Town Hall, and views at Bijapur, Banashankar and Wai. One possiblity for the source of the Bombay Fort photographs is Henry Hinton who was allegedly commissioned to record the ramparts prior to their dismantling, although there is no evidence to suggest these photographs are by him.
