Kodak negative wallet containing 98 nitrate film negatives of archaeological sites in the Swat Valley, with identifying captions listed on index sheets and on film edges. The index lists 100 negatives: negative 77 is missing. Contemporary prints exist only for negative nos. 9, 15, 19, 21, 25, 27 and 29.
The original owner of this collection, William Vernon Emanuel (d. 1940), was the author of The Wild Asses. A Journey through Persia (London: 1939), and acted as interpreter and officer in charge of equipment, commisariat and supplies to the 1938 Swat and Afghanistan expedition. He was killed early in the Second World War. Lectured at the Royal Central Asian Society on 18 Jan 1939, and at the Royal Geographical Society on 6 Feb 1939.
