Scope & Content:

Kodak negative wallet containing 100 nitrate film negatives of archaeological sites in the Swat Valley, with identifying captions listed on index sheets and on film edges. Contemporary prints exist only for negative nos. 10, 31 (two copies), 32 and 49.

William Vernon Emanuel (d. 1940) was the author of 'The Wild Asses. A Journey through Persia' (London, 1939), and acted as interpreter and officer in charge of equipment, commisariat and supplies to the 1938 Swat and Afghanistan expedition. He was killed early in the Second World War. Lectured at the Royal Central Asian Society on 18 Jan 1939, and at the Royal Geographical Society on 6 Feb 1939.
