Kodak negative wallet containing 56 nitrate film negatives of archaeological sites in the Swat Valley, with identifying captions listed on index sheets and on film edges. The index list for this wallet continues in a more sketchy fashion from 57-74, but these negatives are not present. Contemporary prints exist only for negative nos. 51, 52, 53, 54 and 55.
William Vernon Emanuel (d. 1940) was the author of 'The Wild Asses. A Journey through Persia' (London, 1939), and acted as interpreter and officer in charge of equipment, commisariat and supplies to the 1938 Swat and Afghanistan expedition. He was killed early in the Second World War. Lectured at the Royal Central Asian Society on 18 Jan 1939, and at the Royal Geographical Society on 6 Feb 1939. See also his article in 'Illustrated London News' of 24 December 1938, pp. 1189-91.
