Sir James David Sifton Collection: Album of photographs of India and England

Green cloth and half-leather bound albummeasuring 317x445mm, with prints loosely inserted in corner hinges, from the collection of Sir James Sifton. The prints vary from small personal snapshots to large professionally photographed groups and relate to Sir James Sifton's period as Governor of Bihar and Orissa. The views by Johnston and Hoffmann of Government House, Ranchi are of particularly high quality. Some prints are captioned in white ink on the print surface, the majority are uncaptioned.
Sir James David Sifton (1878-1952), entered the Indian Civil Service in 1902. He served as Governor of Bihar and Orissa 1932-36 and Governor of Bihar 1936-37.
