Scope & Content:

Reproduced as a collotype in H.B.W. Garrick, 'Report of a tour in the Panjab and Rajputana in 1883-84' (A.S.I. vol. XXIII, Calcutta, 1887), pl. xxviii, and described and translated, pp. 21-24: 'Somewhat more than half-way up the rock, this inscription is difficult to copy, especially by means of photography; but, by taking advantage of some peaked rocks overhead, around which ropes were passed and tied to a photographic apparatus, &c. (which may be said to have hung against the lower rocks), I contrived to get a good record of this important inscription, of which I also took an inked and pencilled impression...so shallow and indistinct have the letters become by the actions of rain, &c., that they appear to assume distinctly different forms at various times of the day, or declevities of the sun; and it was not without several unsuccessful trials that my photographs were obtained.' Photograph incorrectly credited to Caney in Bloch's list.
